Utah Governor Race Has Conservative Coronavirus Fault Lines

The hotly contested race for the GOP nomination in the Utah governor's race is showcasing conservative fault lines over the coronavirus crisis response. The four-way June 30 vote will be a test of whether the state leaders' approach to the pandemic embodied by Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox can withstand criticism from the right by former House Speaker Greg Hughes and businessman Thomas Wright. It will also determine whether the well-known politician Jon Huntsman Jr. can capture voters’ attention during a time of deep uncertainty. Republicans debating Monday night agreed that George Floyd's death was wrong, but generally backed police and soldiers keeping damage at bay.
